Blheli Suite For Mac

Hi all,
I'm half way through my first build - thought I'd start myself off gently and build an iFlight DC3 (with DJI) using the same components the BNF uses. So an iFlight Succex Mini F7, and an iFlight Succex Mini 40A 4-in-1 ESC.
The build seemed to go fine (although my soldering needs work), and I've successfully got the FC configured in BetaFlight with my DJI radio. However I cannot get the motors to respond in the Motors section of BetaFlight.
I've downloaded and run BLHeli Configurator and hit 'Read Setup'. In the log I see the output below, note the four errors like 'ESC 1 read settings failed cmd_DeviceInitFlash ACK_D_GENERAL_ERROR'
So my question is, how do I go about diagnosing what might be wrong here?

Blhelisuite Download For Windows 10
ImpulseRC Driver Fixer. This application will attempt to install the correct serial port and DFU drivers for using STM32 F3, F4 and F7 based flight controllers on Windows. If you have trouble running the Driver Fixer you may need to install the Microsoft.NET Framework v4.5. Bidirectional DSHOT can be enabled only if ESCs have been flashed with supported firmware and this can be done both for BLHELI32 and BLHELIS: for BLHELI32 this can be done by updating the firmware through BLHeli Suite, while for BLHELIS (which is the case of the Eachine Wizard X220S) we need to download JazzMaverick firmware (free).
